Enigmatic Chargers finally have pieces in place
For the last few years, it's been almost a given that Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers would rise to the top of the AFC West crop, especially in such a weakened division. Instead, they showed the league that they could not put it all together to field a complete team. Following another playoff-less season the Chargers sent most of the media’s top brass into a state...
Chargers released Hester, Novak; waive QB Lee
There were several notable names among the Chargers' moves to reach Friday's 53-man roster limit. Nate Kaeding has won the tight battle for the kicking job with Nick Novak released, and veteran fullback Jacob Hester was also released, along with offensive tackles Anthony Davis and Mario Henderson and defensive end Jacques Cesair. Safety Sean Cattouse was placed on injured...
Chargers Made Sacrifices to Fit Talented 53 Man Roster
Yesterday, the Chargers announced their final cut down to a 53 man roster. With the cuts, many good players had to be cut to make room for the best team moving forward. This part of the year is never an easy thing and many Twitter users were having a hard time letting go of some good men.
Some veterans contracts that had to be terminated to make room on the roster include, Jacques...
NFL News: San Diego Chargers roster moves to reach 53-man limit
The San Diego Chargers met the league imposed deadline last night to reach the 53-man roster. After several moves, the Chargers roster is currently at 53 players. San Diego placed S Sean Cathouse on the injured reserve list. Veteran players, Jacques Cesaire, Anthony Davis, Mario Henderson, Jacob Hester and Nick Novak all had their contracts terminated. Ryan Mathews not expected to be ready for week one
Getty
According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, running back Ryan Mathews is expected to miss the Chargers’ season opener.
Mathews, despite his rehab work to achieve otherwise, is expected to miss the start of the season,” Gehlken wrote.
I don’t expect Mathews to be back until early October. The worst thing the Chargers could do is rush him back and then...
KSK 2012 NFL Prekkake: San Diego Chargers
Whereas the typical Chargers M.O. under Norv Turner has been to stumble out of the gates only to rally late for a playoff spot set aside for them because they’ve been the only halfway decent team in their division for some time now, in 2011 San Diego started 4-1, only to lose six straight. Their Week 17 victory over the Raiders also enabled the Broncos to win the division when...
Bolts try to end 2-year playoff drought
They've missed the playoffs the last two seasons and have one playoff victory the last four years.
Their quarterback was a mess last year, accounting for a whopping 25 turnovers, the most in the NFL.
And, perhaps only in soft and sunny San Diego, posting a double snowman - an 8-8 record - was good enough of a showing for embattled coach Norv Turner and polarizing general manager...

Another Lockout in the NFL
Just when we thought the phrase, “NFL Lockout” wouldn’t be spoken for at least another 10 years, here it is again. Thank God that it doesn’t involve the possibility that the 2012 NFL season could be cancelled or shortened, but it isn’t good news. The NFL officials are the one’s who are now in a contract dispute with the NFL brass. The disagreement has to do with compensation...
Chargers without starting OT Gaither
San Diego Chargers starting offensive tackle Jared Gaither will not play in the team's season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 9, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Sunday. Gaither has not played or practice since having back spasms in late July. He had signed a four-year, $24.5 million contract that guarantees him $9 million. "I don't know if there...
Niners bolt past Chargers during 35-3 blowout
The 49ers ended the preseason with a bang Thursday night, dominating the San Diego Chargers 35-3 at Candlestick Park to finish their summer exhibition slate with a 3-1 record and give the team considerable momentum heading into their titanic regular-season opener at Green Bay next week.
49ers 35, Chargers 3
Antonio Gates ran over the middle and caught the pass from Philip Rivers. He took a couple steps and had the ball stripped by C.J. Spillman and roll all over the damp Candlestick Park grass and into the arms of a defender. Not exactly the lasting memory the San Diego Chargers wanted heading into the regular season.

Friday NFL Training Camp Notes
Ronnie Brown is the favorite to begin the season as the Chargers' primary tailback. He had five carries for 25 yards in the team's final preseason game, and has been getting most of the first team reps. It's been a few years since Brown has looked like a starting back, but with Ryan Mathews sidelined with a broken collarbone, Brown could be a sleeper option for the first...
