by Dennis J. GeorgatosFiled under: Chargers, AFC WestLong snapper David Binn, the last remaining member of the Chargers' only Super Bowl team, was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
Binn, 38, played in one game this season, his 17th, before being sidelined. The former Cal star broke in with the team in 1994, when the Chargers reached the Super Bowl, where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
He has demonstrated remarkable durability during his career, playing in 256 of 257 regular season games and appearing in a dozen playoff games.
The Chargers signed free agent James Dearth to replace him and he'll have three days of practice to work out any timing issues with kicker Nate Kaeding and holder Mike Scifres. Everything must be quick and go right in the three-step process of snap, hold and kick in order for the field goal or extra point to be successful.
The Chargers host Jacksonville on Sunday in their home opener. Permalink...
