Kris Dielman had a history that included at least one seizure as a child, had just suffered a concussion and was facing a cross-country flight. This, according to a neurologist, was a perfect storm that precipitated the gran mal seizure Dielman suffered Oct. 23 as the Chargers charter flight descended into San Diego about eight hours after Dielmans helmet and that of New York Jets linebacker Calvin Pace collided in the fourth quarter of the teams game in New Jersey. Ultimately, perhaps in part because he finished that game after being concussed, Dielman was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will not play again this season. I would say you had one of those perfect storms, said Dr. Vernon Williams, medical director of the Kerlan-Jobe Center for Sports Neurology. If you had someone who had a predisposition
and he had a recent concussion, so we know that there are significant cellular changes that occur as a result of the concussion and by the way, those things would make the brain less able to, give it less physiological reverse, less able to handle stresses
and now you put him at high altitude, I would say that makes sense. Several sources said that Dielman continues to improve and might have been able to return for the seasons final month. He is expected to fully recover and return as the Chargers left guard in 2012.
