The prognosis from the San Diego Chargers was that it would take running back Ryan Mathews four to six weeks to return from his broken clavicle suffered in last week's preseason opener. Mathews is thinking he'll be ready sooner rather than later. Addressing reporters for the first time Sunday, Mathews offered an optimistic outlook, saying he is targeting Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders for his return. "I think I heal pretty fast," Mathews said, according to U-T San Diego. "I think that'll give me time to play against the Raiders. ... I'm happy it happened now than against the Raiders. It's better that it happened now, just to get it out of the way. It gives me a few weeks to recover and get back at it." Mathews, who underwent surgery Friday, wasn't wearing a sling and demonstrated the mobility in his injured right arm by raising it. Mathews said his doctor gave him a three-to-six week timetable and that he will continue to train hard, despite the setback. "My legs aren't broken," Mathews said. "I can still do stuff with my legs and everything. It's more just upper body stuff that I'll probably have to shy away from, but my legs work just fine."
