The Chargers still expect Vincent Brown to return for the second half of the regular season, which would give them a boost down the stretch. Brown's return from a broken ankle is contingent on the ligament damage, and after he underwent surgery last Sunday, everything pointed to the receiver missing eight weeks, with only minor ligament damage discovered.
Veteran additions Robert Meachem, Eddie Royal and Roscoe Parrish made Brown somewhat of a forgotten man in the Chargers receiving corps after he caught 19-329-2 as a rookie, but his play this summer served as a reminder that Brown will be a weapon in San Diego. Rivers and the rest of the offense certainly will welcome Browns return at midseason. In the meantime, the Chargers got some good news on the injury front when Royal, who had a very strong spring, returned to practice last week after missing all of training camp with a groin injury, and he should be the team's top slot receiver when the season begins.
