Chester Pitts has made it clear to interested teams that he will be 100 percent recovered by July from a leg injury that kept him out all of last season.

You can make that claim “official” now, as Pitts is reportedly set to workout for at least five teams on July 15th, including the Seattle Seahawks.

The Hawks have already visited with the free agent guard, and as stated by the man himself regarding Seattle:

“I’d say they’re the front runner for greatest need and best fit,”.

For a team with well documented blocking woes, taking a flier on the guy who would have likely been the markets most coveted guard (without injury), would be a very smart move.

Three of the personnel that make up the right side of the line are still slated to start in 2010, my thinking is if it’s clear something is broken… cough… Chris Spencer… cough… Shouldn’t you do something to address it?

I’m no GM, but unless I am missing something here, isn’t a healthy Chester Pitts an upgrade over any of the three guys on our interior?

It would be cost effective as well, as the market for guards this off season has not exploded; Ben Hamilton got a one year, $2 million deal, Ryan Lilja got a three year, $7.5 million deal, Bobbie Williams got a two year, $5.8 million deal. Considering Pitts is bouncing back from an injury, it’s a safe bet the deal won’t be surpassing any of the aforementioned ones. Jahri Evans got a fat payday, but he is considered to be arguably better then Steve Hutchinson– different circumstance.

If we’re willing to fork over $4 million for a career third string quarterback, I see no reason to not offer Pitts an incentive laden 1-2 year deal to potentially become the teams best interior presence if he proves to be healthy.

Unless something else develops, this is the end of Pitts-Watch for another six weeks.
