The Chicago Tribune has confirmed that the Chicago Bears will move former DE Shea McClellin to strong-side linebacker. The change has been a long time coming, and will benefit both the Bears defense, as well as McClellin. From day one, McClellin just didn’t fit into the role of an NFL Defensive lineman. He has enough speed to rush the passer, and showed flashes of that during the 2013 season. In the Monday Night game against the Packers, McClellin had 3 sacks The Next Bruce Irvin Steve Rosenbloom, as well as Brad Biggs, both of the Chicago Tribune, confirm that the upside McClellin physically provides is that he could play the role that Bruce Irvin, another converted DL, is playing on the Super Bowl defense of the Seattle Seahawks. #Seahawks switched Bruce Irvin like #Bears will Shea McClellin. Seattle GM John Schneider “could see that move.” http://t.co/ekRLMTBi4F — Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) January 30, 2014   GM Phil Emery Admits Error While Phil Emery may be a good talent evaluator, apparently where he puts the talent has been called into question since day one. McClellin, Emery’s first draft pick as General Manager of the Chicago Bears, was always thought of to be out of position by fans, and assumedly coaches as well. The move of McClellin from DE to LB basically is Phil Emery admitting his mistake, which is fine from a fan’s view, as long as it is corrected. Pre-Cursor To Briggs Trade? While it appears Lance Briggs has been frustrated of late with the defensive play and scheme (assumedly), moving McClellin to linebacker could open up more trade talks to move the future Hall-Of-Famer. It is unsure what the Bears’ plans are with James Anderson and DJ Williams, but this could open some possibilities if they choose to target a different inside linebacker in Free-Agency or a trade.
