Chiefs coach Todd Haley said QB Kyle Orton, who dislocated a finger on his throwing hand Week 13 on his only play of the game, would not practice Wednesday. "He is still pretty sore," Haley said of his backup QB. Haley won't rule out Orton for Week 14, but it appears this injury will keep him from having the chance to start.

Chiefs keep playoff hopes on life support

The way this season has gone for the Kansas City Chiefs, it figured that Kyle Orton would hurt his finger on his first play with his new team. The Chiefs have been waylaid by injuries, in-fighting and inconsistency. Their best players have been bruised, battered and beaten down. The losses have been stunning routs, the victories by the narrowest margins, and yet somehow they still...

Haley says Chiefs coming around on defense

Todd Haley opened his news conference Monday by reeling off some defensive statistics from Sunday's win in Chicago. The Chiefs had seven sacks and three interceptions while holding the Bears to zero for 11 on third downs and zero for two on fourth downs. The fact that even with a showing like that the Chiefs still needed to sweat out the finish of their 10-3 victory speaks to...

Chiefs Bearly Survive the Windy City

Everyone wants to praise this team. Fans want to hear that Todd Haley had them ready to play, that Tyler Palko could have a chance as the starting quarterback, that this offense did just enough. Wrong on all counts.

Haley on going for the Hail Mary: 'A big play for us'

Week 13 Observations: All Hail Todd Haley!

1. LeSean McCoy often haphazardly waves the ball around with one hand, seemingly without a care in the world. He seems to have no regard for ball security, eschewing the far-side tuck or the two-handed clutch in favor of the one-handed showboat. But McCoy has not fumbled once in 2011 and has just three fumbles in his three-year career. He knows what he's doing.   2. Leave it...

Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher Added To The Injury Report

The Kansas City Chiefs added a new name to their injury report on Thursday -- LB Jovan Belcher. He was limited on Thursday with a shoulder injury but Chiefs coach Todd Haley said at his press conference that he's optimistic on Belcher so it sounds like it's nothing to be too concerned about. After Belcher, the same three guys from Wednesday were on there -- C Casey Wiegmann...

Expect the Chiefs to lean on their defense for the rest of the season

The plan hasn't changed much, or at least Chiefs coach Todd Haley says it hasn't. And maybe quarterback Tyler Palko finally embraced the plan on Sunday in Chicago. Palko didn't turn the ball over against the Bears, and that allowed his team to hold on for a 10-3 victory -- uneventful and boring as it occasionally was. Haley has said throughout his three seasons that mistake...

Haley likes progress Palko has made

Through the seven turnovers of quarterback Tyler Palko's first two NFL starts, Chiefs coach Todd Haley remained his most public supporter and, seemingly at times, his only friend in Kansas City. Haley has declined the chance to gloat about that since Palko won his first game as a starter last week when the Chiefs beat Chicago.

Jets have Chief concerns

The Chiefs’ offensive numbers in recent weeks have resembled the sun: Stare directly at them at your own risk. Todd Haley’s team has sputtered since quarterback Tyler Palko took over for the injured Matt Cassel.

Chiefs' offense hasn't been same since Weis left

A little more than 11 months ago, Chiefs coach Todd Haley stood at a lectern after a blowout loss to the Oakland Raiders that ended the regular season and discussed how the Chiefs would be OK after offensive coordinator Charlie Weis moved on. News had leaked days earlier that Weis would be leaving for the same position at the University of Florida. He had been with the Chiefs less...
