It seemed possible the Kansas City Chiefs could look to the waiver wire to find depth at inside linebacker going into the day. After hearing the news that Chiefs starting inside linebacker Joe Mays is expected to have wrist surgery, that becomes even more likely.
#Chiefs ILB Joe Mays is going to have wrist surgery, source said. He suffered the injury during last week's game at the #Panthers.

Joe Mays was the expected starter alongside Derrick Johnson, and he had performed well in the first two preseason games. The depth behind Mays is limited, to say the least. James Michael-Johnson, Josh Mauga and Nico Johnson are the “best” of the bunch.
If Joe Mays misses any games, that’s a tough blow. He plays his ass off and is good against the run.

There is currently no timetable for Joe Mays’ return. In the meantime, it might be time for the Chiefs to look around for a replacement-level inside linebacker.
