Pat Shurmur knew he was on the hot seat with new owner Jimmy Haslam coming in. So why would Shurmur go with whom he thought did not give him the best chance to win? The only reason Heckert got fired was because when a new owner takes over a team he just wants to have his people he knows and trusts in those positions. Had the Browns finished 10-6 Heckert and Shurmur would have been retained, perhaps Holmgren as well but they would still be on a very short leash. Banner would have still been added and Lombardi would have had to wait until the current regime faltered.
