The 53-man roster cuts came and went, with the Cleveland Browns being among the busiest teams on the waiver wire. With the addition of six players, the Cleveland Browns had to make several tough cuts of players who had previously made the active roster. While the Browns have parted ways with running backs Miguel Maysonet, Brandon Jackson, Jamaine Cook and Robbie Rouse this year, as well as placing Dion Lewis and Montario Hardesty on injured reserve, they have quickly filled the void with two more able-bodied backs.
While Browns fans were panicking with the lack of depth at running back on the roster, especially given Trent Richardson’s recent bout with injuries, Cleveland’s front office was acting quickly. The decision-makers in Berea inked a pair of collegiate standouts in Western Kentucky’s Bobby Rainey, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, and Arkansas’ Dennis Johnson, formerly of the Houston Texans.
While many may think these are just depth fillers on a ...

The Browns are unbelievably busy today. Craig already covered the pair of running backs in Bob Rainey and Dennis Johnson being claimed from the Ravens and Texans respectively. Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer also adds that the Browns claimed rookie center Patrick Lewis off waivers from Green Bay and have claimed up to three more players that they have yet to announce.
When training camp started for the Cleveland Browns, they had stocked the running back position. Now the team is only 5 days away from the start of the season, the only household name that is healthy at the running back position is Trent Richardson. Coming into camp, there was a lot of concern to the health of Richardson’s leg. He didn’t play in every preseason game and he played...
Anyone who has been watching Browns football knows James-Michael Johnson is a good football player. The Browns should have found a way to keep this line backer. He was all over the field in the Bears game. This guy is a player who is capable of producing big plays for the defense. I understand that the Browns are deep with line backers, but Johnson gives 110% each time he steps on...
The 2013 was considered a horrible draft if you ask me. According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com several NFL teams cut draft picks, which is not good for a scout. What happens most of the time is an NFL scout from a certain area, puts a player on his or her big board. During this […]
With the six waiver claims from earlier today, the Browns needed to add three more names to the list of released players in tight end Kellen Davis, running back Brandon Jackson, and linebacker L.J. Fort. They came in the form of offensive linemen Jarrod Shaw and Caylin Hauptmann and tight end/back Brad Smelley.
Shaw was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2011 and...
It’s officially one week until the first Sunday of the NFL season, and all teams were required to have their active rosters down to 53 by Saturday night at 6:00 PM EST. The vast majority of teams follow the time-tested method of keeping three specialists – one kicker, one punter, and one long snapper – on their roster, leaving 50 spots for offensive and defensive players. Last...
Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson is already entering his second season as a veteran of sorts. Gone are Brandon Jackson, who was cut, and Montario Hardesty (knee) and Dion Lewis (broken leg) who were both placed on injured reserve. Two young backs claimed on waivers Sunday will be Richardson's backups: second-year pro Bobby Rainey from the Ravens and rookie Dennis...
The Browns have launched a new fan website in anticipation of Sunday’s home opener. The team will be giving away prizes every hour until 10:00 pm tonight.

The Cleveland Browns cut Shayne Graham on Saturday leaving no kickers on their 53-man roster.
Graham had been brought in to fill the shoes of Phil Dawson who left in the off-season. Instead the Browns opted to get the 12-year veteran go even as he was 4-for-4 in preseason kicks. The Browns also cut rookie Brandon Bogotay.
#Browns expected to have kicker competition between Dan Carpenter...
Trent Richardson’s role as workhorse was never in doubt.
After season-ending injuries to Montario Hardesty and Dion Lewis it couldn’t be more obvious.
When the Browns cut the roster to 53 on Saturday they kept Chris Ogbonnaya and Brandon Jackson as the only backup running backs. The grouping didn’t last long as Bobby Rainey (5-foot-8 212 pounds) and Dennis Johnson (5-7 196...
There’s nowhere busier than Berea, Ohio right now as the Browns have submitted a whirlwind of transactions already today. It continues with the addition of former Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray to the active roster. Gray is now giving it a go as a tight end, and he caught one pass in the preseason for the 49ers. The undrafted rookie is 6’4″ and 240 lbs., boasting a 4.73...
We knew the Browns would be active, and guessed that running back could be addressed. Now, it apparently has. According to Aaron Wilson and Jason La Canfora, the Browns have claimed Bobby Rainey and Dennis Johnson respectively.
