Found May 29, 2012 on Gridiron Grit:
An individual with purpose can not die until his or her destiny is fulfilled, as the drive to succeed is so great that the proud seeker struggles at times to find a guiding light among the doubters in his or her path. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Torrey Grissett is an example of a person who overcame his inner demons because his purpose and destiny would not allow him to be defeated.  In addition, Grissett didn’t allow his naysayers to dictate his life because of his chosen unconventional journey to the NFL.  However, his doubters almost succeeded. “I was dedicated in trying to play football,” said Grissett via phone conversation. “At one point, I almost give up because I didn’t receive any opportunities. So, I had to tap into my dream, trained myself and put myself on diets and workouts.  When you workout by yourself, you can get the mindset that you want to give up and you don’t want to do anything because you don’t have anyone to push you.” “I had to believe in God and I asked ...

Trent Richardson not an every down back for the Cleveland Browns in 2012?

The Cleveland Browns acquired Alabama RB Trent Richardson in last month’s NFL Draft. Analysts opined prior to the draft that Richardson was the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson, a true three down back with the power and stamina to be a featured back in the NFL. Will the Cleveland Browns utilize Richardson as a true featured back? It’s possible that the Browns...

Emmanuel Acho's goals go beyond football

BEREA -- Some Cleveland Browns play football for money. Some for fame. Some to win games and titles. Some because they simply enjoy the game.Rookie linebacker Emmanuel Acho includes all those among his purposes, but ultimately he has a larger one in mind.I just like what football allows you to do as far as what platform it puts you on, the Browns sixth-round draft choice out of Texas...

Sporting News: Browns Pat Shurmur Ranked 26th Among NFL Head Coaches

In the Sporting News’  recent publication which ranked the 32 head coaches in the National Football League, Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur is slotted 26th overall. In the list topped by New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, Shurmur betters only Minnesota’s Leslie Frazier, Tampa Bay’s Greg Schiano, Indianapolis’ Chuck Pagano, Miami’s Joe Philbin, Oakland’s...

Browns believe Buster Skrine could develop into a starting caliber player

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Browns believe 2011 6th round pick Buster Skrine could develop into a starting caliber player. Skrine played sparingly as the Browns’ 4th cornerback as a rookie, but could be ticketed for a bigger role in 2012. Sheldon Brown is currently penciled in as the starter opposite Joe Haden, but he is 33 years old and has obviously...

Mary Kay Cabot Really Likes Brandon Weeden’s Arm

Last week we heard from longtime NFL scout Greg Gabriel, who, in expressing his opinion that Colt McCoy is a “far better player” than new Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden, also mentioned that Weeden “has a good but not a great arm,” and that his ball tends to “float.” The Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot, after having watched Weeden for a couple weeks in practice, has...

John Hughes to start for Browns?

The Cleveland Browns selected John Hughes in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft in a move that surprised everyone. Hughes was widely projected as a 6th or 7th round pick if he got drafted at all. Even Hughes himself didn’t plan his draft party until day 3 of the NFL Draft (rounds 4-7) because he didn’t expect to be drafted before then. Hughes was drafted for purely depth reasons...

Brandon Jackson to be Browns 3rd down back?

The Browns may have traded up to use the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on Trent Richardson, but according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Brandon Jackson will be used on 3rd downs. This move is consistent with what Head Coach Pat Shurmur normally does, taking his feature back out on 3rd downs. He did so in St. Louis with Steven Jackson when he was their offensive coordinator...

EX-NFL RB Jamal Lewis files for bankruptcy

Former Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis has filed bankruptcy. I have tried to explain this to people many times. It isn’t that athletes who file bankruptcy are broke, what happens is they overspend, so their debt to income ratio isn’t where it should be. In the immortal words of Patrick Ewing….

It’s understood and appreciated that Terry Pluto wanted to do something nice for the troops in his latest Memorial Day Weekend column but the decision to publish the following letter from a Cleveland native in the Air Force was just way off: FROM A FAN IN THE MILITARY . . . This email came from Sgt. Maurice Ingram, a Cleveland native in the Air Force. He has written me from Korea...
