The Finatics attended a live conference with Coach Philbin on Monday at training camp in Davie, Florida. Philbin answered live questions from Miami season ticket holders in person, and on teleconference. Here is are the highlights of what he had to say. Coach Philbin said that the Dolphins ran 980 plays last year during the 2012 season.  He reviewed every one of them prior to minicamp.  He said that the biggest areas that need focus are: 1) Eliminating the explosive pass plays against the defense 2) Take the ball away more on defense 3) More explosive plays on offense 4) Stop the giveaways on offense.  Dolphins were -10 in giveaways vs. takeaways last year. On the defense, Philbin was impressed with the progress of Reshard Jones and Chris Clemons, and thought that they would be part of eliminating the explosive passes against the defense.  Additionally he sees an improvement in the secondary over last season.  He also discussed Deion Jordan, and how he would contribute on def...

Joe Philbin will look to get the Dolphins back to the playoffs for the first time since 2008. (Photo: Sun Sentinel) Unlike in the recent couple of years, the Miami Dolphins enter 2013 with something they have not had in a while, expectations. After a run in 2012 that had the Dolphins in the playoff hunt until Week 16 and their best offseason in recent memory, Miami has become...

Miami Dolphins claim former Chicago Bears Tight End Evan Rodriguez

Dolphins claimed FB/TE Evan Rodriguez off waivers from the Bears today.  Evan is a very athletic H-Back type of player who comes in at 6’2 and 239 pounds.  Rodriguez drew comparisons to Aaron Hernandez coming out of Temple but has been in trouble quite a bit since entering the league. He managed just four catches as a rookie and was arrested twice this offseason before Bears...

Dolphins Brandon Gibson is cramming to become an NFL slot receiver in one offseason

The slot receiver position has become a staple in NFL offenses and every team has one. When you think of great slot receivers, Wes Welker or Victor Cruz comes to mind, but there are many good ones out there. The Dolphins traded their previous slot guy in Davone Bess to Cleveland during the 2013 NFL Draft. However, they had his replacement already on the roster in free agent pickup...

Video: Butt slap gets Chad Johnson 30 days in jail

Who did have presiding over this, Judge Judy on steroids? Judge Kathleen McHugh is not to messed around with. Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson and his attorney had a deal in place with prosecutors to avoid any prison time; instead he would do community service, counseling and probation. But when Judge McHugh asked Chad if he was pleased with his lawyer, Adam Swickle, he responded...

Dolphins defense further along than last offseason

DAVIE, Fla. Defensively speaking, the Miami Dolphins began the offseason focused on improving two key areas: Forcing turnovers and preventing big plays. The Dolphins defense had 10 interceptions and six fumble recoveries last season for a minus-10 giveawaytakeaway differential. That tied Pittsburgh for 11th in the AFC. Miami also surrendered 60 pass plays of 20 or more yards. That...

The Patriots and Dolphins, Paper Tiger Offenses

The following is the first in a 3 part series... First, comparing the AFC-East offenses. This is what they call an eye-chart! The number geeks, scouring the web looking for justification of the conclusions they've already come to. Guilty! Guilty as charged! Depth charts in June are like Depth charts in February, completely different from what they were when the season...

Dolphins not wasting any time, Vonta Leach expected to visit on Wednesday

The Dolphins will host free agent FB Vonta Leach on Wednesday. Leach has a coaching staff connection in Miami; offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was on the Packers and Texans’ staffs when Leach played there. I don’t understand the move honestly because they already have Jorvorskie Lane, who is better than 80 percent of the fullbacks out there.  Leach would be an enormous upgrade...
