PackersTakes previously applauded Peyton Manning’s keen business decision to open up 21 Papa John’s franchises in anticipation of the state of Colorado passing Amendment 64, allowing for the legal, recreational use of Mary Jane. Since Tuesday night the topic of discussion has been the inevitable showdown between Colorado (and Washington State) and the big, bad federal government.
The federal government currently has no specific comments on what lies ahead. Jeff Dorschner, spokesman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, said. “In enacting the Controlled Substances Act, Congress determined that marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance. We are reviewing the ballot initiative and have no additional comment at this time.”
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is ready to go to battle. He fully understands the amount of pizza and snack food profits on the line.
“The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don’t break out the Cheetos or gold fish too quickly.”
This a tipping point for the economy and it’s a marketing force for Peyton Manning’s Papa John’s restaurants.
Gov. Hickenlooper already has his state supporters behind him. One hippy-lettuce fan has apparently brought bags of Cheetos and Goldfish to the governor’s office.
Said this crunchy citizen, “I decided to break out the Cheetos and Goldfish for him and try to move the process along a little bit and I’m happy the governor is being tongue and cheek about this. A little bit of levity is always a good thing and I’m happy to respond in kind with a little more levity.”
So very eloquent.
Governor Hickenlooper is expected to ratify the ballots within 30 days…well ahead of Manning’s construction schedule.
