TEAMS: Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have been granted permission to interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. The desire to speak with Arians seems to emphasize how intent the Bears are on bringing an offensive mind to Halas Hall. Arians served as the Colts interim head coach for 12 weeks as head coach Chuck Pagano battled through leukemia and led the team to a 9-3 record. Pagano rejoined the team for the regular-season finale against Houston and will coach the Colts in the playoffs this weekend. Arians, 60, did not talk about potential head-coaching jobs with the Indianapolis-area media this week but Pagano spoke on his behalf. “What I would say is obviously he's earned any phone call,'' Pagano said, according to the Indianapolis Star. "He's earned that right. Let me just say this: We do not want to lose Bruce Arians. We know what he is and we know what he means to the organization and to this football team.''
