We caught up with the Jets' 7th round selection, FB Tommy Bohanon out of Wake Forest, to get a better feel of what he can bring to this New York Jets squad.
Tommy first got the call when he was out with friends from Wake Forest and family at a bowling alley, and decribes it as "a surreal moment." "I couldn't believe the dream I've had since 5 years old was coming true."
On if he expected to be drafted: "From everything my agent had told me, I kind of expected to be drafted in the later rounds. So it was defintely a relief once I finally did get that call."
On if the Jets had expressed interested prior to the draft: "I think that there was always a little interest because I personally knew the scout that did our area. He came around a few times for games. At the combine there are two scouts that help out, and he was kind of the one directing us. So he was with us the whole time and talked, and developed a good relationship."
On if he's comfortable in an expanding role in receiving the ball: "Yeah, my hands are something I defintely pride myself on. So expanding that role and catching the ball out of the backfield is something that I would enjoy doing."
On if receiving or blocking is his forté: "I mean, first and foremost, I'm a fullback. I have to be willing to throw my head up-in-there and open holes for the running backs. The receiving is always going to be secondary. I have to be able to block first to be able to do those things; to catch the ball out of the backfield as well."
On if he has a shot at starting this year: "I think it will defintely be a competition once we get into camp and we'll see how things work out then. I'm not going to see yes or no, but I think we'll go in there and have a great competition. And we'll see who wins the battle."
On what he'd be doing if he wasn't playing football: "After football is over or if football wasn't around, I'd like to have my own small training facility or something of that nature, and stay close to the sport. By training athletes and helping them reach their goals."
Thanks to Tommy Bohanon for taking a few minutes to speak with us, we wish him the best of luck. Make sure to follow the Jets' newest fullback here: @TommyBo42
I did also make sure to tell Tommy that I think he was the Jets' best draft pick. Because I do.
