Lions head coach Jim Schwartz announced Thursday that defensive tackle Corey Williams had knee surgery earlier this week and will be out of action this weekend against Minnesota. Tim Twentyman of the team’s website went further saying that Williams is week-to-week as he recovers from a procedure that was done to clean things up and keep him on the field more consistently in the long run.
Williams has been a nice anchor for the Lions on that defensive line in which he’s accumulated six tackles and two sacks in the team’s 1-2 start. Detroit is however deep on the line while Nick Fairley and/or Sammie Lee Hil will get the start in Williams’ place alongside Ndamukong Suh.
The team did get some good news though as QB Matthew Stafford returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering a hip injury last Sunday.
Backup Shaun Hill took first team reps on Wednesday while Stafford’s status for Sunday continues to be up in the air.
