As the Green Bay Packers start their offseason training activities program, one of the best defensive players, cornerback Sam Shields was a no-show. A restricted free agent, Shields hasn’t signed his one year tender and that leaves him not under contract. Reports are Shields is looking for a long term deal and the two sides are far apart on money.  The team doesn’t believe this will be a dragged out process, but when a player doesn’t sign their tender it’s an indication they are looking to get paid and soon. Howver, coach Mike McCarthy wants Shields in the fold. “I wish Sam was here," McCarthy said, via Tyler Dunne of JSOnline. "He's not here for his specific reasons that I'm sure if he wants to answer them, he can answer them. It's about the opportunity to compete and our secondary is very competitive. I wish he was here."

Sam Shields skips OTA’s

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Packers cornerback Sam Shields didn’t show for Tuesday’s organized team activities.  It likely has to do with that fact that he wants a long-term contract.
