So, not to sound like the movie “Speed” but…. “Pop quiz hot shot, name the Jets receiving corps.” I bet most of you out there just failed our little pop quiz.

I honestly feel bad for Mark Sanchez. The Jets top three projected receivers for the 2012 season — Santonio Holmes, Stephen Hill and tight end Dustin Keller — were out with various injuries for last night’s matchup with the Houston Texans. (Holmes is out for the year with a knee injury suffered in last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.) So now Sanchez gets to try and throw the ball to guys named Kerley, Cumberland and Schilens. I don’t mean to offend these guys but it’s no secret that this isn’t the scenario that the Jets drew up in camp, that these three guys would be the top 3 receivers. On top of not having decent receivers to help him out, the moment he made a mistake last night, the entire stadium started chanting Tebow’s name. We knew this was coming, everyone knew in March that this was coming but I still feel bad for him. And no, I am not a New York Jets fan.

So news broke today that Terrell Owens would gladly accept employment from the New York Jets. Surely there HAS to be a better answer no?

Owens played for my team at one point in his career and I honestly wouldn’t wish that on anyone. If you think I feel bad for Sanchez now, just wait until he has to deal with Owens and his mouth on a regular basis, if the Jets decide to go that route. It’s not that Owens wouldn’t help on the field because he probably would. Owens could probably help a lot of quarterbacks in this league but unfortunately for Owens, it’s as much about your ability to gel with the people around you as it is performance on the field. Owens has a fairly large reputation for his inability to gel.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan was asked about it in his Tuesday press conference. “You never say never to anything,” he replied, when the subject of Owens came up. “We’ll look at all options.”

I’m almost willing to bet right now that Owens will be a New York Jet based on Rex Ryan’s reaction alone. I wonder what the over/under is?

During the offseason, the  Jets re-signed Sanchez to a three-year, $40.5 million extension. Before the extension, Sanchez had two years remaining on his contract. Therefore, Sanchez reportedly has a five-year, $58.25 million contract. Two weeks later, they traded for Tim Tebow. Now, they are in such a hole they may be considering bringing in Terrell Owens? Usually the circus doesn’t make it to New York until February but lucky us, it’s come early and we might get 10 weeks of pure insanity.
