A Dallas Cowboys fan’s obituary made mention of how the deceased may have chosen to shuffle off this mortal coil to avoid having to watch the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles battle it out in Super Bowl LII.

“Robert Clyde Drew, beloved husband, father, and Papa, drew his last breath January 25, 2018, mainly, we suspect, to prevent himself from having to watch the Patriots and Eagles in the Super Bowl,” the obituary reads on the Wichita Falls funeral home Dignity Memorial, via SportsDay.

The obituary also brings up a play from a few years back that still sticks in the craw of Cowboys Nation: Dez Bryant’s controversial no-catch from a Divisional rRund playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers back in 2015.

“A loyal Cowboys fan, he died peacefully with his daughter by his side, knowing full well that Dez, did, in fact, catch the ball,” the obituary notes.

Interestingly, Bryant’s catch/non-catch, along with myriad other controversial rulings in the years since, prompted NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to state the competition committee will effectively start from scratch with the league’s interpretation of what constitutes a catch.

“A lot of focus this off-season is going to be on the rulebook — the catch, no catch rule, officials are officiating that correctly,” Goodell said in Minneapolis this week ahead of Super Bowl LII. “There will be a lot of focus on going to the ground. We have a great opportunity to get it right.

“… From our standpoint, I would like to start back, instead of adding to the rule, subtracting to the rule, to start over again and look at the rule fundamentally from the start because I think when you add or subtract things you can still lead to confusion.

“… These rules are very complex. You have to look at what the unintended consequences are of making a change. I think we can clarify this rule.”

It’s simply a shame the late Robert Clyde Drew won’t see any potential changes be implemented. Rest in peace, good sir.
