The Dallas Cowboys released veteran cornerback Terence Newman on Tuesday and will visit with his possible replacement Tuesday night. The Cowboys were expected to have interest in Kansas City corner Brandon Carr and according to multiple reports, they'll get their chance to meet with him face-to-face. Carr, 25, is a 6-0, 207-pounder who intercepted eight passes in four seasons with the Chiefs. He had four interceptions last year and has broken up 59 passes in the last three seasons. Carr, a former standout at Division II Grand Valley State University, was drafted by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. The chances of the Chiefs re-signing the veteran corner seem slim considering they recently signed cornerback Stanford Routt to a three-year deal worth nearly 20 million. Kansas City also extended the contract of starting cornerback Brandon Flowers in September, rewarding him with a five-year, 50 million extension. Visiting the Cowboys on the first day of free agency shows there is serious interest from both sides, meaning a deal could get done before Carr gets a chance to leave Dallas. Michael Lombardi of The NFL Network tweeted Tuesday that Carr was working towards a deal with the Cowboys that might be over 7 million per year. -- Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
