Matt Johnson’s stay on the physically unable to perform list was a short one. The rookie safety, who was drafted on the fourth round, will have his name removed Monday, when the full team has its first training camp practice. Johnson, who was bothered by a hamstring injury, missed the three-day preliminary camp at Valley Ranch, where rookies, first-year players, quarterbacks and injured veterans worked out last week. Johnson, who will compete with Barry Church and Brodney Pool at the safety position not occupied by Gerald Sensabaugh, missed most of the Cowboys’ offseason program because he was finishing classes at Eastern Washington. Consequently, he didn’t participate until the final day of the team’s mini-camp in June. “Somebody asked earlier about the importance of reps,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said last week. “Matt’s behind in that regard. He’s doing everything he can to stay engaged with our team and understand what we’re trying to teach.
