The Dallas Cowboys continue to bolster their defensive line even after the Draft. Today the Cowboys signed someone they’ve coveted for almost two years. Since the departure of the 3-4 system and the change over to the 4-3, Okoye has been linked as a possible addition to the defensive unit. It’s a positive sign too, seeing as the Cowboys are coming off one of the poorest showings in history. Rod Marinelli is known for his miracle-working skills with defensive linemen, look no further than George Selvie, a former second round pick, whom all but fizzled out in the NFL, yet came to Dallas in 2013 and registered seven sacks and resurrected his career. Okoye was originally the tenth overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He has also played two stints with the Chicago Bears and you guessed it had his best year under Marinelli. Amobi Okoye had a rough 2013 and was out of the league with injury issues. Jason Garrett feels as though he’s healed up and ready to contribute saying: “We like a lot of things about him. He’s a young player coming out of (Louisville),” Garrett said of Okoye.”He has a lot of talent. Rod was around him in Chicago so we know him well. We think that’s a positive thing. He’s had some health issues the last year or so where’s lost some weight. We feel like he has a chance to be a contributor on the line.” The team feels like he has versatility but visualize him primarily as a three-technique behind Henry Melton. It is undisclosed how much the contract is worth but it is a two-year deal. In his short career Okoye has played in 83 games and has recorded 16 sacks, 177 tackles and three forced fumbles.
