Chris Culliver isn’t going to escape his foolish words from this past week at media day for the Super Bowl. The second-year corner will undergo sensitivity training shortly after he returns from New Orleans. The young San Francisco 49ers defensive back made disparaging remarks about the gay community when he was asked about the possibility of playing with a gay player. Culliver has since apologized for his remarks through a statement and when he met with the media the following day, but he will continue to make amends post-Super Bowl. Culliver is scheduled to begin working with “The Trevor Project,” an organization that provides crisis and suicide intervention to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth, according to his public relations representative, Theodore Palmer. “It’s just an opportunity for him to learn about his comments and educate himself about the LGBT community, and grow,” Palmer said. “It’s the first step in learning about his words.” Culliver had insulted the gay and lesbian community by saying that he would refuse to play with a gay player, and that if anyone was gay on his team, that they should leave.
