Dak Prescott has always had nothing but high praise for his predecessor. Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Romo is no longer a Dallas Cowboy, thus making Dak Prescott the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback on the roster.

Prescott, who has always spoken glowingly of Romo, admits that he’s been given a lot to live up to by his predecessor.

“Me and Tony, we’ve always been great throughout this whole situation, before the situation when I came in (as the starter),” Prescott said Saturday, via Rob Phillips of the Cowboys’ official website. “So nothing’s ever changed. That’s something I’m very thankful were able to manage of keeping our relationship the same throughout everything that was going on.

“I hope he’s happy. He made the decision to retire; he’s had a great career. He’s got some big shoes for me to fill to try to come in and do a good job for the Cowboys.”

Prescott did admirably to fill those shoes when he stepped into them after the veteran starter got hurt. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year never looked in over his head while running the Dallas offense. That won’t change now that the job is unquestionably Prescott’s — unless it isn’t, of course.
