The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line took a blow during a 20-7 loss to Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve when left guard Montrae Holland left the game with a torn biceps. NFL players with this injury are typically placed on injured reserve, meaning Holland’s season is over. The Cowboys now have two options at left guard heading into a winner-take-all battle with the New York Giants for the NFC East title.
The Cowboys signed veteran guard Derrick Dockery and cut Holland just before the season started. Holland was brought back when rookie starter Bill Nagy suffered a season-ending injury in October. Now it appears Dockery will replace Holland once again, but this time it’s just before a crucial division matchup.
However, sources close to the team say the Cowboys’ coaching staff is leaning toward rookie backup center Kevin Kowalski. At 6’4″ and 301 lbs., Kowalski is smaller and quicker than Dockery and he’s nine years younger.
