Much has been made of the ongoing (never-ending) Darrelle Revis saga. The Jets reportedly are exploring the idea of trading the Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback, who's apparently drawing a "gold rush" of interest around the league.

While another team would have to part with a high-round pick (or two) to land Revis, they'd also have to line his pockets with cash.

A lot of it.

Sources tell the New York Post that Revis is seeking a contract "just north of" Mario Williams' pact with the Bills -- six years, $96 million with $50 million guaranteed. ESPNNewYork confirmed as much, adding that Revis is "believed" to be looking for $16 million annually and $60 million guaranteed.

A megadeal of that magnitude would make Revis the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.

With those seemingly long-standing demands in mind, The Post reports Gang Green began shopping Revis prior to his season-ending injury in 2012, "a clear indication they have had no plans to sign him to the long-term contract he wants." At the time, at least least one general manager contacted Revis' agents to get a feel for the situation.

Attempting to assuage further dramatics, new Jets GM John Idzik recently reached out Revis, who's held out twice in his career (most recently in 2010). It doesn't seem like it did much good, however.

“(Revis) is raw emotionally right now,’’ a source told The Post.

Idzik made his bones dealing with the salary cap, so he already likely has a clear indication of which direction he'll go. Considering New York boasts the league's worst cap situation, that direction probably doesn't involve giving into Revis' astronomical demands.
