NJ.com’s Jordan Raanan has become our resident salary cap guru. Crunching the numbers, Raanan has put together a list of high-priced veterans who could be salary cap casualties as the Giants attempt to clean up the mess that has been the 2013 season. Big Blue won't get much help, though, as the salary cap will reportedly increase only 2.68 percent next season, from $123 million this season to &126.3 million in 2014. There are a few no-brainers like guard Chris Snee and center David Baas. But there are also players like safety Antrel Rolle and defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, productive players who may fall victim to the business side of the NFL. Eli Manning said during the Victor Cruz negotiations last offseason that he’d be willing to rework his contract but Raanan provides the numbers and digs up the fact that Manning' cap number ($20.9 million) this season is the highest among starting quarterbacks. Next season, Manning's cap number is scheduled to be $20.4 million. It’s shaping up as a critical offseason for general manager Jerry Reese and the Big Blue brain thrust as they attempt to inject new blood into the team. With so many decisions to be made on so many players, it’s becoming easy to see why there are no “meaningless games” as the Giants play out the string because the evaluation process is in full-throttle as we speak.
