Sportsday:
Greg Ellis, a pretty good pass rusher, racked up 77 sacks in his 11 seasons with the Cowboys. DeMarcus Ware is roaring along at a pace twice as fast.
Ware got to 50 sacks in 62 games, tied for the fourth fewest to hit that milestone since stats became an official stat in 1982. He has 53.5 sacks after four seasons, which ranks 11th in franchise history.
If Ware stays healthy, it's a matter of time before he becomes the Cowboys' all-time sacks leader. A sack-per-game pace -- he has 34 sacks over the last two seasons -- would have him breaking Harvey Martin's team record (114, most of which came before the league recongnized the stat) late in the 2012 season. (We're assuming that Ware and the Cowboys agree on a long-term deal, which ought to happen before training camp.)
Once Ware breaks that record, we'll put up a post speculating about his chances to break Bruce Smith's NFL record of 200.
