The preseason is not going well for Broncos star linebacker Von Miller. Early this year reports came out that Miller is under investigation by the NFL because of his possible violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Now things got worse. Miller was arrested this past Sunday for an outstanding traffic warrant. “We have been aware of the matter involving Von Miller’s failure to appear in court for traffic violations,” the Broncos said in a statement Wednesday. “It was reported to the league earlier this week and is being handled through the legal system.” Team officials also went into further detail by saying that Miller was arrested Sunday at the Centennial Gun Club. The club is near the Broncos’ practice facility south of Denver. Miller failed to appear for a court appearance from an October traffic stop in which he was charged with careless driving, driving without a license and no proof of insurance. Miller reportedly was scheduled for arraignment Dec. 31, and the arrested warrant was issued Jan. 2. Miller was released on a $1,000 bond Sunday, which was an off day for the Broncos. The team’s star linebacker hopes to get things back to normal so he can just concentrate on football. He will still have to fight the allegations about violating the substance abuse policy. The Broncos and Miller believe that Miller can win his appeal. A source told USA Today that Miller did not have a positive drug test. There are other reasons that a player can wind up in violation of the league’s drug policy. Some of those reasons are missed tests or diluted urine samples. Even with the headache that surrounds this issue and now the arrest on Sunday Miller has not missed a practice. I don’t think the Broncos and Miller want to press their luck any more moving forward. Hopefully this will be the last of the negative headlines that will be created for Miller and the Broncos.
