Unfortunately for Green Bay Packers' fans, the news is in and even though it's not unexpected, it has to hurt a little bit as former Packers standout Desmond Bishop has agreed to a one-year deal with the hated Minnesota Vikings according to a report by Pro Football Talk. Demond Bishop agrees to one-year deal with vikings, per source with knowledge of situation. — ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) June 24, 2013 There has been a long history of defections between the Packers and the Vikings and Bishop will become just the latest former Packer to wind up in Minnesota, following the footsteps of Brett Favre, Ryan Longwell and Greg Jennings among others. Green Bay decided to move on from Bishop last week, as the former starting inside linebacker was still recovering from a hamstring injury that cost him the entire 2012 season. The Packers felt good enough about current starting inside linebackers -- A.J. Hawk and Brad Jones, as well as their backups -- Sam Barrington, Terrell Manning, Rob Francois and Jamari Lattimore, to let Bishop and his nearly $4 million salary go. Now, we'll see if that turns out to be a mistake as Bishop will get two opportunities in 2013 to prove to the Packers wrong. The former Cal Bear standout was drafted by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft and became a starter midway through the 2010 season due to an injury to Nick Barnett, another former Packers linebacker. Once he became a starter, Bishop's play took off and he ended up playing a key role in the the Green Bay's 2010 Super Bowl Championship, recovering a key fumble in the team's 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his only full season as a starter in 2011, Bishop excelled and posted a career-high 96 tackles to go along with five sacks and two forced fumbles. If he is truly healthy, Bishop should have no problem locking down a starting position for the Vikings, who are coming off a 10-6 season that earned them a wildcard spot in the 2012 NFL playoffs, where they were eliminated by the Packers.
