With the news that All Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis would have to miss this Sunday’s contest against the Steelers, New York has turned to an unlikely source to provide crucial depth in their secondary, in the form of former running back/kick return specialist Joe McKnight.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Post, the Jets have had McKnight practice with the defense as a cornerback this week and could potentially use him in that role if events in the game warrant.

New York’s cornerback stable has been reduced to just four healthy players and given Pittsburgh’s penchant for running four and five wide receiver sets, having enough bodies in their defensive secondary has to be a major priority for the Jets.

McKnight, 24, has no experience as a corner as a pro or on the collegiate level, but his athletic ability is such that he should be able to stay with receivers should he be asked to give it a go on defense.

Now in his third season, McKnight has carried the ball 83 times for 326 yards in his career, and has 38 kick returns for 1,157 yards and one touchdown to his name.
