Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie head coach wants to employ a run heavy offense this season. On Friday night, the Buccaneers took the field for the first time under Schiano’s leadership with their new rushing attack on full display. Third-year running back, LeGarrette Blount along with rookie Doug Martin were impressive in their limited action, energizing the fan base for the upcoming season.
The Buccaneers fans aren’t alone in their excitement for the team’s rushing attack in 2012. LeGarrette Blount told reporters that he believes that Tampa Bay could have the best rushing duo in the NFL. The slimmed down Blount said, “We can definitely be the best duo in the NFL, with the schemes that we have, with the offensive line that we have, with the blocking and the confidence (Martin) has in me and the confidence I have in him.”
Blount might be inflating his expectations for the duo just a bit. Schiano stresses ball control for his running backs and Blount has struggled with turnovers in his yo...
BEST OF MAXIM
AROUND THE WEB
LeGarrette Blount has high hopes for the Bucaneers backfield this upcoming season. In fact, he thinks the unit could be the best in the NFL.
Vincent Jackson is excited to be playing in Tampa Bay, which is lovely because I’m sure the fans are happy to have him. Jackson signed a five-year contract worth slightly over $55 million over the offseason, so it is hardly surprising that he has only positive things to say as he begins his new journey with the Buccaneers. That being said, there’s a very fine line between being...
The NFL can be a cruel business for players on the fringes of a roster, and nobody knows it better than Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Tiquan Underwood.
Underwood spent most of the 2011 season and postseason - including Super Bowl week - with the New England Patriots, but coach Bill Belichick released him the night before the big game.
''It was tough,'' Underwood...
We get it. Vincent Jackson is happy to be out of San Diego and with the up and coming Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But that happiness doesn’t give him the license to make outlandish statements about his new quarterback.
We’ve been down this road once, but that time it was with Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. And as absurd as it was for Flacco to state that he’s the best quarterback...
After Vincent Jackson inked a $55 million deal with the Buccaneers this offseason, he instantly became the team’s top receiver, and shiny new toy for quarterback Josh Freeman.
Jackson, formerly of the Chargers, was tasked with transitioning from Philip Rivers, a perennial Pro Bowler, to Freeman, who most would agree is still a work in progress.
V-Jax disagrees — and that’s...
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered few injuries during their preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, but there are a few injury updates to note. Most notably, Mark Barron was held out of the game with what has now turned into a nagging toe injury. While the Bucs expect him to be ready for next week's game, this is certainly something to keep an eye on. Dallas Clark didn'...
Developing a running game is a priority for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and new head coach Greg Schiano, and it showed in Friday night's preseason opener at Miami.
The Bucs ran the ball only 22 times per game last season, the least of any NFL team. On Friday night they ran 25 times in the first half of a 20-7 exhibition victory against the Miami Dolphins.
Schiano says that veteran...
He said it with a straight face, too. I get speaking up for your teammate, especially your QB, but this is beyond ridiculous. If anything, Josh Freeman might be top 5 of over-hyped QB’s the last few years, but certainly not a top 5. But, Vincent Jackson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers said it. “We [...]
CB Aqib Talib
Aqib Talib was one of the best cornerbacks in the league in 2010, allowing 35 completions on 59 attempts (59.3%) for 502 yards (8.5 YPA), 5 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions, while deflecting 7 passes, committing 2 penalties. If he can bounce back off a slightly disappointing 2011 season, when he allowed 28 completions on 51 attempts (54.9%) for 479 yards (9.4 YPA), 6...
Battle of South Florida ends with Bucs on top of Fins 20-7
The Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers met Friday night under the moon and lights in Miami for each club's first preseason contest of the 2012 season.
The game started off smoothly for the Bucs as they scored on their first two drives with touchdown runs by rookie running back and first-rounder from Boise State...
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off the Greg Schiano era with a dominant 20-7 victory over the Miami Dolphins in their preseason opener on Friday night.
Buccaneers101.com has gone back over the game and here are some of the highlights from the defense:
They showed some quickness and ability to attack, but the pass rush still isn’t there. Tampa Bay had a league-worst...
1. Doug Martin, Buccaneers
Doug Martin is a strong, speedy back already wowing coaches and fans. His NFL build is similar to that of Ray Rice of the Ravens. Interestingly enough, Ray Rice went to Rutgers, where at the time the head coach was Greg Schiano, the Buccaneers current coach. I believe Schiano will look to use Martin and Legarrette Blount similarly to how he used Rice and...
