Finally, the details of LB Jerod Mayo’s contract have emerged. And we can put into proper perspective the five-year extension he signed on Friday. Want some details via a league source? First of all, Mayo earned a $6 million signing bonus and a $12 million option bonus. That’s $18 million fully guaranteed. After that, beginning in 2012, Mayo’s salaries are guaranteed for injury-only. That’s actually the same as LB Jon Beason’s deal, and it means Mayo can be released without penalty if his skill level drops off. He is betting that doesn’t happen (and one would think he’ll maintain consistency). Mayo will earn an average of $9.7 million. His base salaries are $600,000 for 2011, $750,000 for 2012 (both from his old deal), $1.25 million in 2013, $3.25 million in 2014, $6.25 million in 2015, $7.25 million in 2016, and $8.75 million in 2017.
