The Penalty Flag:
Detroit Lions General Manager Martin Mayhew is snatching up free agents at a pace that sometimes seems a little scary. During the Cleveland game and in its immediate wake, Jim Schwartz was handed four new players and the shopping spree may not be over yet, with the hours-ago signing of OT Kevin Haslam. Whether these acquisitions are meant as a warning to those current players whose effort has been underwhelming or if it is a serious attempt to add more talent to the team is unknown at this point. Every player signed was hustled to Detroit and four of the five were in uniform for practice on Saturday, some without a chance to catch their breath... Read more

It is hard to believe that 15 years ago, Barry Sanders abruptly retired from the NFL. He has never quite opened up completely to place blame on the Detroit Lions and their mistakes in the front office to surround him with a team that could win, or a coach that he could trust. I mean, he loved Wayne Fontes, but never warmed up to Bobby Ross. Sanders, on the eve of training camp in...
Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah caught plenty of eyes during draft season.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz says Ansah’s inconsistency has left the best unseen.

Sports Fans, Who is excited for the return of football? I personally can’t wait, and have been watching a good amount of preseason football for some reason. My favorite team is the Lions and while watching one of their games and with the help of writer Eric Huberman, I stumbled upon my new favorite Lion. He hails from Norway and his name is Havard Rugland a.k.a Kickalicious. He...
ALLEN PARK, Mich. The Detroit Lions arent going to panic over a couple of uninspiring performances by the offense in the preseason.
Its the preseason. Exhibition games. Meaningless.
Still, coach Jim Schwartz would like to see a little more production out of the starters, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, in Thursdays game against the New England Patriots at Ford Field.
Given a couple days to cool down after Detroit's lackluster performance in Cleveland, Lions coach Jim Schwartz was ready to move on and focus on the few bright spots.
Getting All-Pro receiver Calvin Johnson back on the practice field and adding three veteran defensive players to the roster helped further brighten the mood on a sunny afternoon at the team's training facility...
APNewsNow. Jim Schwartz insists that he's not trying to send any of his players a message.
That's not going to stop him from bringing in veteran players, though.
After bringing in four defenders in the wake of a poor performance Thursday in Cleveland, the Lions signed offensive tackle Kevin Haslem, who has played 10 games in a three-year career. Now on his fifth NFL team...
The Detroit Lions finished the 2012 season with a 4-12 record, and ended the year on an 8-game losing streak.
This offseason, the Lions brought in a lot of talented players, including running back Reggie Bush, defensive end Jason Jones, safety Glover Quinn, defensive tackle CJ Mosley, and kickers David Akers and Havard Rugland.
To make room for these new players, Detroit had to let...
There is no doubt that running back Reggie Bush is a phenomenal athlete. His speed and agility is far beyond what most coaches consider an average NFL player; but will histalents get him in the Hall of Fame. Probably not because this guy has not loyalty, he’s selfish and it all about him. He gotdrafted by the New Orleans Saints which was perfect system for him because...
The Detroit Lions are clearly not content with their depth on defense.
In the last couple days, the Lions have added three defensive players a tackle, a linebacker and a cornerback with a combined total of 28 years of NFL experience.
The newcomers include tackle Justin Bannan (6-foot-3, 305 pounds), linebacker Rocky McIntosh (6-2, 235) and cornerback Rashean Mathis (6-1, 200...
The Lions have looked like anything but a solid team this preseason, and it has irked head coach Jim Schwartz. Although some, including yours truly, have criticized the talent that has been assembled in Detroit, the Lions are still trying to better themselves.
Since the Lions were outplayed in every way by the Cleveland Browns, the team has added three veteran defensive players...
Even though it is just the preseason, I think it would be foolish for a team to not take Ndamukong Suh seriously any and every time he steps onto the football field. The Lions take on the Patriots this Thursday during Week 3 of the preseason and the defensive tackle is looking forward to the […]
