One man may not make a team, but Calvin Johnson’s talent says otherwise. The Detroit Lions have not always been known for consistency, but this year a whole knew team has been born. With the most talented wide receiver the NFL has seen, and one of the most talented running backs in the league, the Lions are a team to watch out for. Together, Reggie Bush and Johnson are a double threat to any defensive line. In Sunday’s game against the Browns, Johnson caught only three passes for 25 yards in the Detroit Lions’ 31-17 win over the Browns. While his day was hardly noteworthy, the attention paid to him by the Browns’ defense allowed Bush to have a field day. However, neither Johnson nor Bush were credited with all the success of the game. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said, “I think some of Reggie (Bush)’s big plays that came had a lot to do with Calvin.” Johnson missed last week’s game, a 22-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers, due to a knee injury. Quarterback Matthew Stafford said Johnson gave the offense a lift just by being on the field. “Obviously, he’s the best receiver on the planet, so as much as we can have him out there, we love to have him out there,” Stafford said. “It’s just a testament to how tough a guy he is. He’s not feeling good, but he’s out there battling with his teammates, trying to make any play he can to help us.” There is no denying Johnson’s talent and heart on the field, and his statistics back up all his praise. Johnson has signed an eight-year deal worth up to $132 million, making him the highest paid receiver in the NFL. This extension runs through the 2019 season, but the question is what are the Lions without Megatron? Ever since Johnson started as a Lion he has restored hope in Detroit fans everywhere. It seems as if the team is too reliant on Johnson, which can potentially be a dangerous thing. But for now, Go Lions!
