Obviously, Ndamkong Suh was the biggest roster addition. But in order to make room for the big man, the Lions released DT Leger Douzable. It's just the Lions cutting so much training camp roster filler. I hate to put it that way, but it's the truth. NFL teams need close to an entire extra team's worth of bodies to get through the early weeks of camp. Douzable was expendable, even if the Lions hadn't drafted a starting DT 2nd overall.
One of the cast of thousands who have played safety for the Lions over the past couple of years, Marquand Manuel, also met the Turk today. Manuel was another of Rod Marinelli's "I gotta have him" guys who turned out to be a "why do we have him?" stiff. Taking Manuel's spot on the roster is a rookie free agent safety out of the U, Randy Phillips.
