Found March 21, 2013 on Steelers Depot:
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a pretty strong statement earlier this month when they decided not to tender former fifth round draft pick Stevenson Sylvester. It wasn't so much that Sylvester had done anything in his three years to warrant tendering, more than it was the fact that the Steelers appeared to be very thin at the inside linebacker position. The Steelers started the offseason with only Lawrence Timmons, Sean Spence and Marshall McFadden under contract for 2013. Spence, as many of you know by now, might never play again due to the nerve damage that he suffered to his knee last preseason. Read more [...]

  • Who cares about Sylvester, he had numerous chances to prove himself, and he failed. The Steelers will obviously address the matter in the draft. If not free agency.

Succession At Steelers OLB Position Over Years Points Towards Potential Success For Worilds

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Jason Worilds is now in the final year of his rookie four-year contract, and the expectations are high for the 2010 second round selection out of Virginia Tech. When you look back at the first contract years of Worilds' predecessors at the outside linebacker positions, it gives you some hope that 2013 will be a breakout year for the successor...

Does This Steelers’ Offense Scare You?

As the snowflakes fall on what the calendar says is supposed to be the first day of Spring, I can’t help but take stock of other things in life. You know? Death and taxes and what the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting offense will look like on opening day of the 2013 season…. The usual things one might ponder this time of year. In all seriousness, have you really thought about...

Pittsburgh Steelers Potential First Round Pick Jarvis Jones Disappoints at Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to be taking a long look at linebacker and safety in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. With James Harrison no longer with the team and Larry Foote closing in on his 33rd birthday the Steelers need to find replacements and depth at outside and inside linebacker. Pittsburgh is also looking for at least one safety in the draft with Troy Polamalu...

Pittsburgh Steelers Interest in Tyler Bray Nothing to Look to Deep Into; Or is it?

According to ESPN the Pittsburgh Steelers brass took Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray to dinner before his pro-day workout on Wednesday. Currently the only quarterbacks on the Steelers roster are Ben Roethlisberger and Bruce Gradkowski. There have been rumors that the Steelers may look to draft a young project quarterback during the 2013 NFL Draft this April. The fact that they took...

Steelers 2013 Draft: Georgia LB Jarvis Jones Turns In Unimpressive Pro Day On Thursday

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was spotted at Georgia pro day on Thursday, where outside linebacker Jarvis Jones had, what was reported to be, an unimpressive showing. Jarvis reportedly turned in a slow 4.9 forty yard dash and he didn't move overly fluid in the linebacker drills either. The 6 foot, 2 inch linebacker did not workout at the NFL combine last month...

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert keeps it real: “You could also argue that we lost pieces from an 8-8 team”

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is a straight shooter, and doesn’t want to cry over a team that didn’t make the playoffs in 2012. Following Colbert is refreshing because he doesn’t put the beer goggles on; he confronts an issue head on, and shoots from the hip. Colbert spoke about his team stating they have the ‘wants’ not the ‘needs,’ and they are...

Mike Tomlin Says The Read Option Is Just ‘The Flavor Of The Month’

Mike Tomlin isn’t a believer in the read option scheme that has taken the league by storm, and turned the QB position on its head. The two time winning Superbowl coach is anything but sold on the option play, compared to traditional pocket play. As reported by USA Today Tomlin said the following while at a Tuesday media session for AFC coaches at the NFL Owners’ meeting: ...

Steelers Only Team That Voted To Keep The Tuck Rule

The NFL owners voted Wednesday to eliminate the Tuck Rule at their meetings in Arizona. With that rule now eliminated, quarterbacks who lose control of the ball while trying to pump fake and bring it back into their chest will be deemed to have fumbled. This change of course won't help the 2001 Oakland Raiders, who lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round...

Report: Steelers Interested In Former Colts LB Dwight Freeney

According to Pro Football Talk, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of three teams interested in free agent outside linebackers Elvis Dumervil and Dwight Freeney. This isn't the first time we have heard that the Steelers have an interest in Dumervil, but it is the first time that Freeney's name has been linked to Pittsburgh. Mike Florio reports that Dumervil’s decision is...

2012 Grades, Position by Position, Special Teams

Special teams is the middle child of the football world. No, that’s not right. It’s the red-headed step-child. No one shows special teams any respect, and yet when a game is on the line, it is often the kicker who is relied upon to come up with the game-winning field goal. It is often the punter who is put in a position to pin the opponent deep in their own territory, shifting...

Steelers, Saints may be interested in Jarvis Jones

Former Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones participated in today’s pro at the University of Georgia, and didn’t perform as well as some people had thought he would.  But Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network believes both the Steelers and Saints are currently eyeing Jones. Teams already buzzin about UGA’s Jenkins, especially after looking nice in position drills. Bet on Steelers &...
