MIAMI - 2009: Jeff Ireland of the Miami Dolphins poses for his 2009 NFL headshot at photo day in Miami, Florida. (Photo by NFL Photos)
No you are not dreaming, Jeff Ireland has indeed parted ways with the Miami Dolphins. Fans are finally getting what they wanted….now what ! The first name that comes to mind for most is Brian Gaine. Gaine who has been with the organization for years is best known for helping find and lure in now star DE Cam Wake. Gaine is the Dolphins assistant general manager and is highly respected around the league. I will say this if the Dolphins lose Brian Gaine. I’d be pretty safe to say the ship is sunk — David Canter (@davidcanter) January 7, 2014 Jeff Darlington who has sources within the Fins organization has said that he does not anticipate Gaine becoming Ireland’s replacement however does still currently have a role with the team. Darlington expects the team will search outside the organization for a new general manager The Dolphins like assistant GM Brian Gaine. Club wants to keep him. But search on to find someone who’d be over him. — Armando Salguero (@ArmandoSalguero) January 7, 2014 . Jason La Canfora suggests Pittsburgh executive Omar Kahn as a possible name that could become an candidate. To piggyback on @JasonLaCanfora mention of Omar Khan, he would love the job. — Jason Cole (@JasonPhilCole) January 7, 2014 Eric Mangini is another name who has been brought up and is respected by Ross. Mangini is currently the Senior Offensive Consultant for the San Francisco 49ers, We all know Ross is very close with former GM Carl Peterson however he remains just a consult for Ross and one would think if Peterson was really gunning for the job that he would have it by now. Scott Pioli and current Fins execs Dawn Aponte are other names which have been brought up by Miami Herald writer Armando Salguero. Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum would be a possible candidate with his connections to Dawn Aponte & Matt Higgins, former Jets peeps — Andrew Abramson (@AbramsonPBP) January 7, 2014   Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2013/12/most-of-what-goes-on-around-a-football-team-happens-behind-the-scenes-practices-are-closed-the-locker-room-is-closed-except.html#storylink=cpy One thing seems very clear and that is the new opening in Miami is an attractive one. If the Dolphins run a true GM search, and if the GM is in fact a GM, (with final say and not reporting to some VP) it will be highly coveted — Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 7, 2014 I’ve already heard from multiple people around NFL asking what Dolphins will do at GM. High interest. This is going to be VERY coveted role. — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) January 7, 2014   The Dolphins GM job is very attractive… A lot of top personnel execs were keeping a close eye on that situation. — Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) January 7, 2014 You may also be interested in:Dolphins fire Jeff Ireland….now what?BREAKING: Dolphins part ways with GM Jeff IrelandTwitter reacts to the Mike Sherman firing
