Loquacious wide receiver Chad Johnson was at his best in Cincinnati when he was a boisterous, attention-grabbing Pro Bowl target known as much for his touchdown celebrations and media dealings as his talent on the field.

Head coach Joe Philbin issued a direct warning to Johnson on Tuesday, when Johnson told reporters after practice, "I don't do media anymore."

Johnson was active on Twitter, though not by his standards, posting "Stupid Focused" on Wednesday and then adding seven hours later "Finally a bad day at work ... dammit."

Philbin said he encouraged Johnson to use his position in the public eye as a positive, to influence people the right way.

Johnson was shuttered from speaking openly to media and his confidence seemingly drained in his only season with the Patriots in 2011. He was released after a steep decline in production. He started only three games and caught 15 passes and one touchdown in 15 games with the Patriots, who traded for him in August 2011 when he was known as Chad Ochocinco.

He married, returned to his given name of Chad Johnson, and had all but jumped back into his confident Cincinnati alter ego -- the brash, antagonistic player who had six straight seasons with at least 1,100 receiving yards with the Bengals.

At age 34, it's possible Johnson won't be that same player ever again.

But with the Dolphins, he is being given every opportunity to prove he can be. Whether that's possible without the virtual megaphone mouth that made him popular with the Bengals is to be determined.
