Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald writes that Dolphins CB Sean Smith is expected to be targeting a similar contract to the one the Cowboys handed out to Brandon Carr (five years, $50 million) last season. Salguero adds that Smith inconsistencies make him far from a sure thing and paying him an annually salary of $8 to 10 million is huge gamble to take for any team looking to add an impact corner. Smith led the league by allowing a staggering 46 combined first downs and touchdowns this season. It’s hard to pay a guy that kind of money when he’s yet to put together a truly impressive season, it seems very likely that the Dolphins will allow him to leave via free agency and collect a compensatory pick next season. Miami could be looking for his replacement in either the free agent market or the draft.  We have Smith tentatively ranked as the No. 32 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
