PLAYERS: Jake Long
TEAMS: Miami Dolphins

Jake Long is heading into the final year of his 5 year rookie deal in 2012 and the Dolphins are trying to extend their franchise left tackle. However, the two sides are currently not close right now. Long wants a deal equal to or greater than the 92 million over 8 years that Joe Thomas got last offseason and the Dolphins are not willing to give that to him because of all the injuries he’s dealt with over the past 2 years, though he’s only missed 2 games. According to the Miami Herald, if the Dolphins cannot reach an extension with him before the season or during the season, they will franchise tag him next offseason. It’s rare for teams to announce this kind of thing this early, so it shows just how serious they are about keeping Long. That makes a lot of sense. Left tackles don’t grow on trees and rarely are allowed to hit the open market, perhaps less often than any position other than quarterback. Long is a former #1 overall pick who has lived up to his billing, making 4 Pro Bowl...

Report: Dolphins will use the franchise tag on Jake Long if they need to

Getty Images According to Miami Herald, if the Dolphins aren’t able to lock up left tackle Jake Long to a long-term extension next offseason, they’ll use the franchise tag on him, order to keep him from hitting the open free agent market. Long is clearly a franchise left tackle and the Dolphins have to do whatever it takes to keep him around for the remainder of his career.  It...

Lamar Miller signs, Dolphins switch to 4-3, and Long to be franchised?

It’s early June, but there are some notable Miami Dolphins tidbits we wanted to share with you.  First, the Miami Dolphins have signed another draft pick.  Late last week, the Dolphins agreed to contract terms with Lamar Miller, the Dolphins 4th round draft pick.  I believe Miller may be the steal of this year’s NFL [...]

It makes sense...

Miami Dolphins 2012 Fantasy Football Preview

Fantasy Football and the Miami Dolphins actually don’t make a very good mix. In 2011, the team put up only 20.6 points per game (20th in the NFL) and had a tough time finding out who their play-makers were. With a key piece gone (WR Brandon Marshall), new coach (Joe Philbin) and a quarterback controversy (Matt Moore, David Garrard and Ryan Tannehill), the fantasy outlook for this...

Lauren Tannehill Is Gonna Be In Maxim

“Quick, now swim in this random person’s koi pond!” The Dolphins, not long ago just another forgettably awful team, are now well on their way to being high in the running for Distraction Champions. And that’s wonderful. We encourage more bad teams to have the courtesy to being extra clusterf*cky for our amusement. When it was announced last week that the team would be the...

'Hard Knocks' will benefit Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have taken hard knocks for years. That doesn't mean the club will suffer the same fate on "Hard Knocks." A behind-the-scenes look at Miami's upcoming training camp will actually provide an ideal opportunity for the Dolphins to show they aren't as inept as nationally perceived. Thanks to HBO's editing and production nuances -- like letting...
