In a classy move, the Jaguars on Tuesday allowed former safety Donovin Darius to come back to the team to retire as a Jaguar.

The Jaguars made another ceremonial move Tuesday, signing former safety Donovin Darius to a one-day deal so he could retire as a Jaguar. The move came six days after the Jaguars signed former defensive end Paul Spicer to a one-day contract so he could retire with the franchise.

Darius was drafted by the Jaguars in the first round of the 1998 draft. He was with the Jaguars until the 2006 season. During that time he distinguished himself as one of the best defensive backs in team history.

“I had the chance to talk to Mr. [Wayne] Weaver today and really thank him for the opportunity and just being a part of a great organization that was in its infant stage,” Darius said. “A lot of my memories are of the ups and the downs, the road we traveled. … The impact that being blessed to play on a platform like that, the influence that has where you can use it for good to be a blessing to people around you. My whole experience playing with Jacksonville was an honor.”
