Anything short of a Lombardi trophy in February will have San Francisco 49ers critics saying “I told you so”. It is a sad state of affairs that everything the 49ers have worked very hard for through the very difficult regular season will go to waste if they don’t come home with a world championship at the end of the season.  Of their 12 wins in 15 regular season games played so far this year, the San Francisco 49ers have either “caught a team on a down week”, “played up to the level of competition”, or “defeated a weak opponent from a weak division.” It is impossible to see them getting the respect they deserve until the beat, a “real” team, at 100%, on their field, in the playoffs, by two touchdowns.  Even then we may still hear about how “mediocre” a quarterback Alex Smith is and if the 49ers had not caught that one small break, on that one offensive (or defensive) play the game would have never ended in their favor.  Week after week the experts still rely on the last decade of results to decide who the 49ers are, instead of looking at this year’s team for what [...]
