When Doug Martin came on the scene he look the NFL by storm.  The feature back is hard to find in the NFL these days but we have a new one in Tampa.   I don't usually like first or second year backs but this is a great situation in Tampa and a special player.  Get use to penciling this guy in at the top of the board for the next decade. Running back draft strategy: Doug Martin's big game in 2012 and controlling for outliers when assessing value

Malcolm Gladwell made the topic trendy but outliers have been the bane of a statistical analyst’s existence all along. An outlier is essentially a number so far from the average (mean) that it seems out of place. In fantasy football we’re talking about statistical outputs that stand out from a player’s typical production. For example, Doug Martin‘s 272 total yard, four touchdown...

Bucs' Gerald McCoy leaves practice with tweaked calf

TAMPA, Fla. Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy left practice Saturday with a tweaked calf, coach Greg Schiano said. The severity is unknown. McCoy, named to his first Pro Bowl after last season, limped off during a two-minute drill late in the workout at One Buc Place. After leaving the field, he walked along the sideline but did not return to live play. Initially...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason opener: Ravens 44 Buccaneers 16

(Image from TampaBay.com) ESPN sportscaster and former NFL lineman, Mark Schlereth has a wise NFL saying: “Preseason games don’t count, but they do matter.” What he means by this is that the final score may not have an impact on a team’s regular season record, but the effort, progress and adaptation to live play shown in the preseason will have an impact that may change the...

Bucs coach Greg Schiano pushing Da'Quan Bowers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a better pass rush, and according to coach Greg Schiano, that means they need a better Da'Quan Bowers. Schiano has been on his third-year defensive end - during practices and after - all summer long. ''It's certainly not anything personal. We both want the same thing,'' Schiano said Saturday. ''He wants to be an every...

Mixed Bag of "NUTS" ...Tampa Bay Buccaneers starters 'win' battle, backups lose the war.

The NFL is investigating the idea that perhaps fans are not happy with the current status of PreSeason football in the NFL. Also, Santa Clause is investigating if children are unhappy with lumps of coal for Christmas. As disapointing as paying full price for a ticket only to watch starters play for 8-10 snaps, NFL and Bucs fans were elated to be listening to Gene Deckerhoff,...

Myron Lewis the 2010 third-round draft pick who was cut by the Buccaneers last week has landed in Detroit. A league source tells PFT that the Lions have signed Lewis. The Lions have been looking for depth in the secondary and improvement on special teams so Lewis makes a lot of sense for them.

Buccaneers' placekicking duties up for grabs

There is no competition for Josh Freeman's quarterback job, at least not yet. Rookie QB Mike Glennon made some plays in Thursday night's 44-16 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but Bucs coach Greg Schiano made it clear Friday that Freeman is his starter. The placekicking job is another matter. ''I hope for a very, very hard decision there,'' Schiano...

Report: TE Dallas Clark Could Sign With A New Team This Week

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that free agent TE Dallas Clark has re-affirmed his intentions of playing this season. Schefter adds that a “deal could get done this week“ While still no official word on what team may have an interest, the Baltimore Ravens would make some sense. Injuries to established tight ends Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson have the Ravens tight end unit shallow...

Kevin Ogletree Fares Well in Preseason Opener

Tampa Bay wideout Kevin Ogletree caught five balls for 65 yards which should help solidify his role as the No. 3 receiver behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.Fantasy Spin:Ogletree was in the three receiver sets, but the Bucs don't use that formation much. Still, if either of the starters goes down, Ogletree is the guy to have ahead of Tiquan Underwood or Chris Owusu.
