Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles fell to 1-3 and after a 52-20 road loss to Denver. Peyton Manning dissected the Eagle defense as if they were a sophomore biology frog, removing the heart, the brain and the central nervous system in quick order on the way to 28-34 passing, 327 yards and four touchdowns. Oregon great Jeff Maehl had his first two catches and first touchdown as a pro in the Birds' loss. In a fourth quarter drive Nick Foles hit him on back-to-back plays, first for a 37-yard bomb down the left sideline, then for the 6-yard touchdown on a quick screen. Maehl kept the ball after the play. Kiko Alonso continues to stand out as a rookie middle linebacker for the Buffalo. The Bills caged the Ravens 23-20 in Ralph Wilson Stadium behind a great effort by the defense, holding Ray Rice and the ground game to a net 24 yards. Alonso had five tackles and two pass breakups. LaMichael James was held to three carries for zero yards in the 49'ers 35-11 win over St. Louis on Thursday night. LeGarrette Blount continues to look more viable as a pro back: he had 9 carries for 64 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown run for the Patriots, who ran their record to 4-0 by putting the hood on the Falcons, 30-23. Walter Thurmond, Max Unger and the Seattle Seahawks are also 4-0 after dropping on Houston 23-20. Thurmond had a pair of tackles. Former Duck safety T.J. Ward continues to be a hit man for the Cleveland. He had 5 tackles in a hard-fought divisional matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, won by the Browns, 17-6.
