Yesterday, it was revealed that Dwight Freeney would not be returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2013 season. MT ‏@acwishtv BREAKING: I have been told Dwight Freeney has been informed the #Colts do not intend to re-sign him when free-agency begins — Mary Paoletti (@Mary_Paoletti) February 15, 2013 So, with pass rush being a big problem for the New England Patriots, should we look to pick up the veteran DE? Well, this release probably isn't an issue of health/ability. Colts HC Chuck Pagano switched the Colts from a 4-3 to a 3-4, which really didn't suit Freeney's ability. He is more suited to being a DE than an OLB. This could also be an issue of cap room. It's likely Freeney would feel he's worthy of a lot of money. He's got quite a resume, and has been loyal to the Colts, and despite 33, he's got a few years left in him. But the Colts are definitely moving into a new era. This certainly started with the Peyton Manning - Andrew Luck transition...

Should the Broncos go after Dwight Freeney?

The Indianapolis Colts informed Dwight Freeney today that they will not re-sign him, and thus, he is free to sign with whoever he wants. The Broncos have a lot of money tied up in the younger Dumervil (29)(Freeney is 33), and not much on the other side of the line, where Freeney plays. Sure, the Broncos have Wolfe, but he’s better inside. Robert Ayers plays Freeney’s position...

Dwight Freeney's post-Indianapolis options limited

With the announcement that Dwight Freeney won't be re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran defensive end will be heading into free agency for the first time. With just 12 tackles and five sacks last season, Freeney may have a difficult time finding work with agreeable pay. For Freeney, playing in a 4-3 defense is essential. He didn't fit in the Colts' new...

Indianapolis Colts Release Dwight Freeney

The all time sack leader in Colts history will no longer be with the team.  Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Colts have released defensive end Dwight Freeney, and won’t be resigning him. The 33-year-old Freeney played 10 season in Indianapolis, where he accrued 107.5 sacks in that time span.  I’m sure there will be a line of suitors looking for a capable pass rusher...

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Dwight Freeney wasn’t just a game changer. He changed the game…for me.

Colts Linebacker Dwight Freeney(Photo: Indy Star) Goodbye, old friend. There are certain players you have a kinship with. You feel like you know them, like you have a history with them, like you’ve been through some stuff with them…even if you’ve never met them. Dwight Freeney is one of those players for me. Dwight Freeney has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts for as...

Dwight Freeney: New York Jets a Great Fit For Former Colts Stud

New York Jets fans, Dwight Freeney was recently cut by the Indianapolis Colts after 11 seasons and 107.5 sacks. He is the edge pass-rusher the Jets have never had in the Rex Ryan era! When looking at Freeney, think Michael Strahan, more on that thought in a moment. The Jets have tried and missed on previous edge rushers in the way of Calvin Pace, who in essentially the same number...

End of an era – Colts part ways with Dwight Freeney

The Indianapolis Colts today informed Dwight Freeney that his contract would not be renewed. Freeney was an unrestricted free agent, and the Colts have opted to not re-up with the prolific pass rasher for 2013. That means he will be free to roam the open market for a 4-3 defense of his liking. Freeney, 32, [...]The post End of an era – Colts part ways with Dwight Freeney appeared...

Colts release Austin Collie, won’t re-sign Dwight Freeney

According to Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, the Colts have released wide receiver Austin Collie and have informed defensive end/linebacker Dwight Freeney that they won’t be re-signing him. Freeney simply wasn’t a good fit in the Colts 3-4 defense.  He needs to go back to playing in a 4-3 as a defensive end. Collie on the other hand could never stay healthy.  He is a heck of...

Colts release Dwight Freeney, Austin Collie

The Indianapolis Colts have released linebacker Dwight Freeney and wide receiver Austin Collie, the team has announced. While Freeney said earlier this offseason he hoped to re-sign with the Colts, his release was expected following a disappointing year. Indianapolis switched to a 3-4 defensive scheme, and Freeney did not handle the transition to linebacker well. Over 14 games...

The Sports Hound: 2013 NFL Mock Draft 2.2

With two possible future Hall of Fame players (Dwight Freeney & Charles Woodson) being released from their teams, the mock may change just a bit.  After what I expect to be a poor performance at the NFL Draft Combine, Manti Te’o will drop out of the 1st round. Also check out my list of NFL Mock [...]

Report: Colts Will Not Re-Sign Either DE Dwight Freeney or WR Austin Collie

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts have informed DE Dwight Freeney and WR Austin Collie on Friday that they will not re-signed during the offseason. “I was very surprised to hear they wanted to go in a different direction,” said Freeney in a text message sent to ESPN’s Ed Werder. “Would have been nice to retire a Colt.” Both players are set...

Packers Release Charles Woodson, Colts Say Goodbye to Dwight Freeney & Other NFL News

Even though Super Bowl XLVII wrapped up the 2012-2013 NFL season, there is still plenty of action going on in the league. Granted all of it is happening off the field, yet there has been some activity around the league. Teams are looking at their respective rosters and seeing who is no longer needed.
