New York Jets fans, Dwight Freeney was recently cut by the Indianapolis Colts after 11 seasons and 107.5 sacks. He is the edge pass-rusher the Jets have never had in the Rex Ryan era! When looking at Freeney, think Michael Strahan, more on that thought in a moment. The Jets have tried and missed on previous edge rushers in the way of Calvin Pace, who in essentially the same number of seasons (minus one; he was drafted the year after Freeney) has amassed only 42.5 sacks. The reclamation project that was Aaron 'Mayhem' Maybin; in four pro seasons he has a total of six sacks. Vernon Gholston, drafted the season before Ryan and his staff took over, was put front and center by Ryan as "The Project" to turn him into the pass-rushing demon that his physical gifts suggested he should have become. A physical freak, Gholston was drafted with the 6th pick in the 1st round (by former GM Mike Tannenbaum), and came highly-touted out of Ohio State. But in his brief three-year car...

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Peter King: League buzzing over Dwight Freeney

According to Peter King of SI.com, the NFL has been “buzzing” since the Colts told defensive end Dwight Freeney they won’t be re-signing him this offseason. I think the Dwight Freeney release had the league buzzing over the weekend. One GM who was very interested already in former Giant pass rusher Osi Umenyiora told me Freeney would leapfrog Umenyiora on his free-agent board...

2013 NFL Mock Draft: 3 QBs in the top 10?

This latest pre-combine 2013 NFL  mock draft takes into account where players could be drafted so far in the process. The combine will definitely have a major impact on where players land, and could even knock a few out of the first round. A post-combine mock will be compiled to see where players dropped, and which players ascended, but for now here is the pre-combine mock. A couple...

Indianapolis Colts: Looking ahead to free-agency, part I

The Indianapolis Colts had a highly successful 2012 season, to be sure. The team, led by a rookie quarterback and filled with inexperienced and cast-off players, won 11 games and made the playoffs one year removed from a 2-14 season. However, like any team, there is room for improvement. And, in the NFL, improvement comes in the form of roster moves/changes. This two-part post...

Indianapolis Colts: Comparing Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning, final version

Indianapolis Colts fans are fortunate, if early indications are a true preview of future returns. No matter which way you slice it, Andrew Luck’s rookie season outpaces that of the then-record setting rookie season by former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. And as I have stated all along, this has been with a smaller pool of talent than what Manning had his first go-around (mainly...

Bart Scott Cut By The Jets, Takes Bravado With Him

The Jets cut Bart Scott, along with three other veterans, to open up more than $30 million in cap room. The move wasn’t surprising or undeserved. Scott has been a solid linebacker at times in his career, but those days are mostly behind him. Even at his best, Bart’s play could never quite match his big talk. At the very least, his play couldn’t match the remaining cost of his...

Jets reportedly set to meet with tight end Dustin Keller's agent

The New York Jets have already begun trimming some salary fat off their roster, and there's much more of that to come between future cuts and soon-to-be free agents. But the Jets are apparently still trying to make things work with a few key players on the bubble. According to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, the team plans to meet with impending free agent Dustin Keller's...

Darrelle Revis Takes Shot at Jets Owner?

On Tuesday, the New York Post did what it did best and that’s stir up controversy. This time, the Post took advantage of the current dissension in the New York Jets locker room, particularly one Darrelle Revis. Revis isn’t happy, and he isn’t being shy about it. The New York Post’s back cover on Tuesday featured a big picture of Revis with a caption that said “CHEAP...

Today, our draft team provides a breakdown of potential inside linebackers that could be selected by...

Revis: I'm a Jet until they tell me I'm not

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is no stranger to cat and mouse games involving the team’s front office, but amidst rumblings that the Jets could part ways with him, Revis is questioning his future with Gang Green now more so than ever.

Darrelle Revis 'not any getting answers' from Jets about trade speculation

Darrelle Revis is the best player on the New York Jets. Just ask him.And according to Revis, the Jets have yet to explain themselves after reports surfaced last month that they were looking to shop the All-World cornerback. (photo: Marianne O' Leary, Flickr)"I know it’s a business – just call me; don’t have it lingering out there," he recently told NFL Network...

Jets release Bart Scott, cut four others

With a new front office regime in place, the New York Jets took a first major step toward maintaining salary cap flexibility in advance of the draft and free agency this spring.

Jets Part Ways With OT Jason Smith, TE Josh Baker, S Eric Smith & LB Calvin Pace

The New York Jets have announced that they’ve released OT Jason Smith, S Eric Smith, TE Josh Baker and LB Calvin Pace this afternoon. Brian Costello tweets that these moves will clear close to $24 million in cap space. Jason Smith was taken by the Rams with the second overall pick in 2009. He had a $12 million roster bonus coming his way and the fact that he’s struggled mightily to...

Packers Release Charles Woodson, Colts Say Goodbye to Dwight Freeney & Other NFL News

Even though Super Bowl XLVII wrapped up the 2012-2013 NFL season, there is still plenty of action going on in the league. Granted all of it is happening off the field, yet there has been some activity around the league. Teams are looking at their respective rosters and seeing who is no longer needed. Some of the teams released some heavy hitters while other teams resigned players...
