Newly acquired Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin wants to prove he’s more than a one trick pony. In most circles Barwin is look upon as a pass rush specialist, but he says that his skill to play the run is much improved. Barwin was drafted by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft and was considered a project due to his slim frame. Since his rookie season, he has added 20 pounds to his frame making him more stout against the run. During his time in Houston he worked on playing the run, however, his role was a pass rush specialist, meaning he played on mostly third down as a defensive end. The fifth year veteran signed a six-year, $36 million dollar contract with the Eagles in 2013 and he going to get a chance to be three down player at linebacker, something he's ready for. "It's a lot better than when I came to Houston as a rookie. Everything's different. I'm a different player than I was as a rookie. I'm a lot smarter than I was five years ago. I'm a lot better football player than I was five years ago," Barwin said, via Chris McPherson of PhiladelphiaEagles.com. "Without a doubt, it's been my ability to play the run. My rookie year I was 240. That was 20 pounds ago. I was a nickel rusher," he said. "Every year, I gradually put on weight and ever since my second year I've been able to play the run a lot better than my rookie year." "I'm excited. I don't know exactly how it's going to turn out, but I'm very excited about this defense," Barwin said. "I'm very excited about my role and what (defensive coordinator) Billy (Davis) has me doing right now. There's a lot of movement. There's a lot of versatility in what I do and I think it's going to free me up a lot. "That gives guys a lot of potential to make plays because you confuse the offense," Barwin said. "That was exciting for me when I was in Houston we first did it and that's why I think everybody's excited here because of the potential to confuse the offense and make plays."
