Eagles DE Mike Patterson Eyes Return to Practice.
Earlier this week a sight that no player or fan wants to ever see took place at the Philadelphia Eagles training camp in Lehigh. Eagles starting DT Mike Patterson collapsed between drills, and began convulsing. The seizures reportedly lasted for several minutes, and were very violent. It was first thought that this was due to dehydration, or severe heat stroke. It turns out however, to be a very uncommon brain disorder known as AVM (Arteriovenous malformation). AVM is an abnormal connection between veins and arteries, or “clusters”.
This obviously wasn’t the worst case scenario, but it certainly wasn’t as treatable as dehydration. Treating AVM can be as simple as having a catheter inserted into the AVM where a substance would be injected to block it off, to brain surgery.
